Microsoft Word

Word

A brief introduction

In brief, what is Microsoft Word?

Microsoft Word is a popular word-processing program used for creating documents such as letters, brochures, learning activities, tests, quizzes and students' homework assignments. There are many powerful features available in Microsoft Word to make it easier to work and learn.

Microsoft Word is a word processor designed by Microsoft. It is a component of the Microsoft Office software system; it is also sold as a standalone product and included in Microsoft Works Suite. Microsoft Word is currently the most common word processor on the market. Because it is so common, the .doc/.docx format has become the de facto format for text documents.

CREATING VISUALLY COMPELLING DOCUMENTS

With Word 2010, you can create compelling documents while applying formatting effects such as shadow, bevel, glow, and reflection to your document text. You can spell-check text that uses visual effects, and add text effects to paragraph styles. Many of the same effects used for images are now available to both text and shapes, enabling you to seamlessly coordinate all of your content.

FILE EXTENSION

Microsoft Word's native file formats are denoted either by a .doc or .docx file extension.

CREATING TABLES

Users can also create tables in MS Word. Depending on the version, Word can perform simple calculations. Formulas are supported as well.

MACROS

Like other Microsoft Office documents, Word files can include advanced macros and even embedded programs.
